1st ANNUAL MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH CONFERENCE (AMRECO) SU

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE.
Somaville University is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for its first Annual Multidisciplinary Research Conference (AMRECO) on the theme: “Leveraging the Power of Multidisciplinary Research for a more Resilient and Sustainable Development”. The event will provide a national platform for practitioners, academics, policy makers, researchers and students, to share their work and experiences through the presentation and dissemination of high-quality research on topics relating to the transformation of the Country or States. Somalia is a country endowed with immense natural and human resources, in addition to cultural, historical, ecological and economic patterns; yet it remains underdeveloped. This is a critical puzzle that academics and other researchers have continually interrogated. The objective of the conference is therefore to provide an effective knowledge-sharing platform for intellectual engagement and discussions on issues relating to Somali’s development. It is anticipated that the conference will yield insightful recommendations for overcoming some challenges faced by the Nation, and provide novel approaches to promote growth and sustainable transformation. It will draw on multidisciplinary research to inform policy making in the Nation. Key dates:

SOMAVILLE UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICE NEWS LETTER

To distinguish universities, the Mogadishu Business Award (the former Ministry of Science and Higher Education) chose Somalia University (SU) as one of the country's Best University in two consequence years 2021/2022. In accordance with this, the University has created an Eight-Year Strategic Plan (2016-2023). At the heart of the plan, 'visibility and communication' is one of the University's strategic priorities and focus areas.

For this purpose, Research Communication Team was organized under the SU, Office of Research Affairs. Research Communication Team aimed to foster the continuous sharing of knowledge and information, key experiences and critical lessons related to research and development interventions of the university, using a diverse range of documentation materials and communication channels.

Thus, therefore, this newsletter is part of this initiative which aimed to enhance knowledge sharing and communication among our audiences in Somalia and beyond.

In this issue, we provide you with the key updates in which Somalia University Office of the Research Affairs was actively involved for the past Four-month period (from January 2023 to April 2023).

The updates summarize the key activities and achievements recorded under the different thematic of the Office of the Research Affairs. Furthermore, this edition shall share success stories recorded by the For the first time, Somalia University SU published first article published in the International Journal of Family and Child Health, which is published in a similar Journal based in the United States.

The office also organized training for the supervisors related to the thesis supervision guideline, which was facilitated by Dr Shafici Sharif, who is a PHD holder who studied in Malaysia, training was given for about 15 supervisors.

SU research and development office established a partnership between Somaville University and externally funded projects.

This newsletter does not necessarily report all or all of the work of the Office of the Research Affairs. However, the key activities and achievements are presented with beautiful pictures.

Do spare some time for these newsfeeds. “We all have a way to go, but the walk is worth it.”

STAYING FIT AND MAINTAINING A GOOD WEIGHT

Second Semester Students from college of health science visited different hospitals, and health centers to gain practical knowledge of internal workings of health facilities. With AN AIM of going beyond academics, & health profession. The visit provides students with a practical perspective on the world of health science. There is no better preparation for the demands of the future than a multi-faceted education that Somaville University Provides.

Tips on staying fit and managing your health!

A balanced diet is key to living a healthy lifestyle. When you are eating right, you are able to maintain a desirable weight and have the energy needed to do activities throughout the day. The key to a balanced diet is to eat foods high in nutrients, fiber, and vitamins. Eating foods high in minerals and vitamins will help you maintain a healthy weight. The minerals that are needed for good health include potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Potassium regulates the heart rate and is needed for thyroid function. Calcium is needed for strong bones. Magnesium is good for keeping the heart healthy and is also necessary for maintaining a strong immune system.

Good sources of calcium include milk, cereal, cheese, yogurt among other dairy products. Good sources of Vitamin D include fish such as sardines, tuna among others dark leafy greens such as collard greens kale spinach among others. Eating a variety of whole foods from healthy plants is the best way to get the nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Eating a varied diet will also make you feel full and satisfied. This will help you avoid overeating and maintaining a good weight.

Vegetables are needed for a healthy diet. They are necessary for the body because they contain potassium, fiber, vitamins, and minerals that can be beneficial to one's health. The fiber in vegetables slows down digestion, allowing the body to absorb the important nutrients that vegetables contain better. Vegetables contain lots of nutrients such as vitamins A B C D E K among others. A good way to ensure you eat enough vegetables is by eating at least 5 servings a day. Some vegetables that can be eaten as a whole or as a juice include broccoli carrots, celery, and lettuce among others. Some vegetables that are good as an ingredient include cilantro parsley, mint among others.

Staying healthy does not have to be difficult. As long as you eat healthy foods it is easier to remain fit and maintain a good weight. Staying healthy does not have to be hard, it can make your life better if you are looking for more energy and staying fit.

STAYING FIT AND MAINTAINING A GOOD WEIGHT

The importance of petroleum engineering in the modern world cannot be understated. Petroleum engineers use tools and techniques to extract, process, and transport oil. They can even be called upon to help develop alternative sources of fuel such as solar panels and wind turbines. As the need for fuel has increased in recent years, petroleum engineering has burst into a major career field that is attractive for many reasons including an average starting salary of $79K per year and high demand due to global competition among nations.

The petroleum engineering field was not created overnight and is constantly evolving. Petroleum engineers must have a wide array of knowledge and skills ranging from geology to chemistry. Petroleum engineering is basically the engineering applied to the recovery, conversion, and transport of oil or gas. Though engineering is involved in every part of the oil industry, petroleum engineering generally includes all aspects up to and including refining and distribution of petroleum products. Petroleum engineers may also work on issues related to exploration for new sources of oil or ways to improve recovery from current fields. The field of petroleum engineering began with the first major application — recovery and purification — and will continue as long as there is demand for fossil fuels. More recent innovations have helped to boost the field's stature in the larger engineering community, including things like the birth of computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation modeling.

To enter petroleum engineering, it is recommended that prospective students have a great math background, as well as "good fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, multiphase flow, statistics." Many programs require students to be at least a junior in college before they are allowed to apply because of the rigorous requirements. Although not required, it is usually beneficial for students to take at least one course on petroleum engineering that includes looking into resources available for careers beyond petroleum engineering. For example, students may be able to discover how to get started in the field of engineering management or other engineering fields depending on their interests.

The first step to becoming a petroleum engineer is receiving an accredited bachelor's degree. Most schools offer specialized programs for petroleum engineering, but there are several that also offer degrees that allow for more than just petroleum engineering applications. An example Somaville University that offers an accredited bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering. One major advantage of starting the bachelor's degree at a school with this type of program is its diversity; students can take courses in different areas aside from petroleum engineering, which will later allow them to secure jobs in various fields (e.g., environmental/chemical or business
